Custom Kitchen & Whole-Home Cabinetry on Ferry Road
Kitchen Advantage designed and installed this custom Old Lyme project on Ferry Road in 2017. Nearly a decade later, the kitchen and surrounding spaces remain a strong example of how thoughtful layouts, quality cabinetry, and carefully selected materials can create a home that feels timeless rather than tied to a particular trend.
The kitchen combines inset and overlay cabinetry, with a natural walnut island anchoring the space and bringing warmth to the surrounding cabinetry.
One of the primary design challenges was a structural column that had to remain in the center of the island. Rather than allowing it to interrupt the room, the island and cabinetry were designed around the column so the finished result feels balanced and intentional.
The kitchen also incorporates an extensive appliance package without making the space feel crowded. Features include an espresso machine, ice maker, beverage cooler, double ovens, and a large Wolf cooktop with four burners and a griddle. Matching Wolf ovens continue the coordinated look, while a fully panelized refrigerator integrates into the cabinetry for a clean, seamless appearance.
Custom Cabinetry Throughout the Old Lyme Home
Kitchen Advantage's work on this home extended well beyond the kitchen.
In the adjoining scullery, inset cabinetry with black frames and rails was paired with natural wood doors and drawers, adding contrast while maintaining a connection to materials used elsewhere in the home.
The laundry room features sky blue cabinetry with walnut wood tops, crown molding, and an integrated sink, creating a cheerful and practical workspace.
In the primary bathroom suite, custom black cabinetry continues the home's black-and-white palette. Kitchen Advantage also framed the bathroom television, added custom panels beneath and beside the tub, and designed a walk-in closet that combines black cabinetry with natural dark wood.
Additional custom cabinetry was designed for the bedrooms, including a built-in desk, an armoire at the foot of the guest bed for additional storage, and shelving and storage along the side wall.
Years after its completion, the Ferry Road project continues to demonstrate how thoughtful cabinetry and design can connect kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, closets, and living spaces throughout a home.
